Defence & Offshore signs contract with BP for Blast Resistant Office Building
Published: 19 November, 2009
Hertel Defence & Offshore has announced that it has signed a contract with BP for the manufacturing and installation of a Blast Resistant Office Building for their Rotterdam refinery.
The building will comprise a number of Blast Resistant Modules (BRM’s) and will be similar to the building that was successfully designed and delivered by Hertel D&O to the BP refinery in 2008.
As a solution to the increasing need for safety, economization and work-efficiency in explosion exposed areas, Hertel D&O has engineered a standard solution for BRM’s. A BRM provides the ultimate solution for workers safety and equipment protection. By providing a safe place within the process area, the operations can be accomplished in an efficient manner.
The BRM can also be customized to suit specific needs and regardless of the function of the work unit, all necessary furnishings and equipment required for any project can be provided. The BRM is equipped with fire resistant doors and windows and both standard and customized BRM’s can be outfitted with all provisions such as HVAC, Electrical, Sewage- and potable water systems.
Blast load resistance up to 14 PSI can be achieved and the specifications meet or exceed ASCE, API and AESC standards. Fragment impact resistance of external walls is up to 6 inch flanges.
