Dutch engineering and innovation to the max!
Published:  01 January, 2006

Plastisol is world market leader in design, engineering and production of glass-fibre reinforced polyester (GRP) bodywork, especially for the firefighting and rescue industry. Hans Koolen, Benelux regional sales manager told FIRE & RESCUE why the company's GRP-technology has proven to be such a success.

Hans Koolen comments, “Plastisol has developed considerably since it began producing water and foam tanks 30 years ago. The company’s main focus is still on firefighting vehicles in all their various forms - cabins, crew-cab extensions, superstructures and tanks. But the Plastisol product portfolio has extended tremendously over the years.”
Today, Plastisol produces airport crash-tenders, anti-riot vehicles, ambulances, rapid intervention vehicles and even multifunctional containers all developed and built to the highest standards and qualifications. Furthermore, the design-possibilities are basically unlimited, so for every request Plastisol can supply a custom-made solution.
“In the past we had to cope with some prejudices against our GRP-technology,” admits Hans Koolen. “But more and more people are becoming convinced about the effectiveness of our durable technology. “GRP-constructions are not only flameretardant and shock absorbing, but also reduce the weight of a vehicle substantially. Since our products are corrosion-proof and maintenancefree, we can give our customers a unique 10 years warranty on all our GRP-constructions. And in case there might be some kind of damage, our products are very easy to repair.”
Plastisol is an internationally-oriented company. Around 85% of the Plastisol output is exported all over the world. Within the Dutch market, however, Plastisol remains a major player: more than 50% of all firefighting vehicles actually being sold in The Netherlands have a GRP-construction provided by Plastisol.
TZine development:
The latest development from Plastisol is the TZine superstructure which has captured much international attention since it was launched at the Interschutz show in June 2005. Some outstanding features of the new technology include integrated C-profiles and cable tubes, resulting in flat and smooth internal walls, falldown steps with integrated corner rubbers and lights, integrated ladder recesses and various illumination options.
The TZine can be built to a standard range of length and width options. A major benefit of this concept is the reduced engineering time which, in combination with the new highly-efficient assembly technology, results in a considerable shorter delivery time for clients.
